Background Information
John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1902. Steinbeck had two hardworking parents and three sisters. He was a shy but a very bright kid. He had lived a happy childhood with very little economic problems. John Steinbeck had dropped out of college, and then started writing novels that soon became very popular. The first book he wrote was in 1929 called, "Cup of Gold," then he wrote another novel in 1932 called, "Pastures of Heaven," the next book he wrote was in 1933 called, "To a God Unknown," another book he wrote is, "Tortilla Flat," which was written in 1935, in 1936, he wrote a novel called, "In Dubious Battle," in 1937, he wrote, "Of Mice and Men," in 1937, he wrote another book called, "The Long Valley," and the last book he wrote and published was in 1939 called, "Grapes of Wrath." John Steinbeck won the Pulitzer prize in 1940 for his famous book, "Grapes of Wrath."
